12 Strays of Christmas

We'd like to introduce you to our 12 Strays of Christmas promotion, sponsored by Daniels Long Chevrolet

Cupid

And here we are... It's finally Christmas and time to meet our 12th and last featured stray in our 12 Strays of Christmas promotion, sponsored by Daniels Long Chevrolet.

We know Cupid, a 1-year-old Australian shepherd mix, will find his way straight to your heart when you meet him. But he needs just the right family to thrive. You see, Cupid came to HSPPR on the Rescue Rover from another shelter that asked for our help finding him a home. Cupid is deaf, and coupled with being an adolescent and a dog that needs lots of exercise, he?s in search of a family that?s patient and can spend lots of time working with him to learn good manners. Because he has so much energy, he would do best in a home without young children. We?re also including a voucher for a professional behavior consult with our partner All Breed Rescue and Training to help set you up for success. Cupid just loves life, and his exuberance is infectious! If you have room in your home and heart for this very special friend, come meet Cupid today!

Each of our 12 Strays of Christmas will have their adoption fee waived by our good friends at Daniels Long Chevrolet (you still might have to pay a licensing fee depending on where you live). Daniels Long has also donated a gift basket to go home with each of these deserving pets. Help spread the word to get every stray into a great new home!

Muffin

On the eleventh day of Christmas, we're hoping to find a home for little Muffin. Muffin is a 5-year-old black shorthair kitty and today's featured stray in our 12 Strays of Christmas promotion!

When Muffin's previous owner brought her to the shelter because his wife passed away and he could no longer care for her, she was scared and shy. Staff and volunteers have spent extra time visiting with her to help her adjust, but she feels the most comfortable hiding in her cubby when there's too much commotion around her. This sweet girl prefers to watch quietly from afar, though her soft meows are a sign of affection. Muffin has lots of love to give to a family who can be patient with her and give her time to adjust to her new home. She would acclimate better if she had her own quiet sanctuary room with food, water, a bed, toys, a scratching post, and a litter box while she settles in. And thanks to Daniels Long Chevrolet, you'll go home with many of those supplies when you adopt Muffin!

Kylee

On the tenth day of Christmas, we're hoping to find a home for sweet Kylee. Kylee is a 5-year-old white and brown pit bull and today's featured stray in our 12 Strays of Christmas promotion.

A good Samaritan called our Animal Law Enforcement (ALE) team when she spotted Kylee wandering around the neighborhood. Something was clearly wrong. She was weak, emaciated, and her head was tilted to the side. Our veterinary team discovered she had a condition called pyometra, which is an abscessed, severely infected uterus. Toxins and bacteria leak across the uterine walls and into the bloodstream, causing life-threatening toxic effects. We performed an emergency spay surgery to remove the infected uterus. With antibiotic therapy, as well as IV fluid therapy, Kylee has recovered and is ready to go home! She still has a bit of a head tilt, but it's not expected to cause any problems. She certainly doesn't let it keep her from living life to the fullest, and she especially loves going for walks!

Clara and River

On the ninth day of Christmas, we're upping the purrrrs with bonded feline friends Clara and River. They are our featured strays today in our 12 Strays of Christmas promotion!

Clara, an affectionate gray and white 7-year-old kitty, and River, a stunning 7-year-old tortie point Birman, were brought in by a concerned citizen who spotted them huddled in a gutter. Side by side, they are ready to tackle anything together, though there may be a little friendly competition from time to time as they vie for a spot in your lap. If you're up for doubling the love in your home this holiday season, these two are eager to meet you!

Lyric

On the eighth day of Christmas, Lyric is ready for you to take care of HER for a change! Lyric, a 5-year-old spayed Chihuahua, is the eighth Stray in our 12 Strays of Christmas promotion.

Lyric came in to HSPPR nursing one little puppy. The puppy was much too young to be adopted out, so Lyric and her puppy were sent into a wonderful foster care family until the pup was old enough to be on his own. Lyric was a GREAT mom, but she's ready to be someone else's baby now! She loves sitting on the laps of her special people and meeting new people. She seems fine around other cats and dogs, but she is a bit of an escape artist, so her new owners need to be extra vigilant if she is off-leash. And she loves sleeping under the covers with her family!

Marquette

On the seventh day of Christmas, we'd like to introduce you to Marquette, a very sweet 4-month-old kitten. Marquette is the seventh Stray in our 12 Strays of Christmas promotion.

Marquette came in to HSPPR at the beginning of October with a large wound on her head, so she spent several days in our ICU for daily cleaning of her wound. When her wound didn't appear to be healing, our fabulous veterinary staff performed a surgery to explore the wound area. Marquette then went into foster care to recover from her surgery and make sure it was a success.

After a month in a loving foster home, Marquette is ready to find a permanent home that will love her for the rest of her life! Due to her injury, her sense of spatial awareness is impaired. Occasionally she miscalculates the placement of objects around her, like her food bowl or a toy, and may need help locating them. Sometimes when running and playing, she loses her balance and falls backwards or flops over on to her side. She still has a head tilt and prefers to view the world by tilting her head back and looking straight up.

Marquette is very affectionate and LOVES to sit on laps. Like most kittens, she is very playful and is looking for a watchful, loving owner willing to make sure she can safely play despite her impair spatial awareness. And UNLIKE many cats, Marquette truly loves to have her belly rubbed! She's a very special girl indeed.

Little Bit

On the sixth day of Christmas, we have a Little Bit of love for you to meet! Little Bit, a 10-year-old Chihuahua mix, is the newest Stray in our 12 Strays of Christmas promotion.

Little Bit was one of more than 20 dogs found living in a Cortez mobile home. She and several of her Chihuahua friends came here to HSPPR to receive medical care and find their new homes. Because of her previous living situation, Little Bit is a little bit nervous in new situations and around new people. She is not leash trained, but she is working hard at learning, and she would love to continue her training with you! Because she is still a little nervous, Little Bit would prefer a quieter home without any energetic younger children. Come give Little Bit a wonderful home for her retirement!

Miss Daisy

Miss Daisy is looking for a VERY special, one-of-a-kind home. She has been with HSPPR since January of this year. At the time, she had several wounds on her face and neck, and during her exam, our staff veterinarian found she also has a mild heart murmur.

Daisy was in the shelter for over a month while on a treatment plan, but she was not improving and was starting to get depressed. So a wonderful foster volunteer agreed to let her stay at his home while she continued her medication. Daisy made several trips back to the shelter for more exams, and the DVM determined that her condition was a result of a food allergy. Her foster parent did a great job of monitoring Daisy at his home. He kept her on her special diet, kept a cone on Daisy so she wouldn't be able to scratch her face, and even trimmed her nails on her back legs to prevent her from injuring herself more. Most importantly, the foster volunteer gave Daisy the time she needed in order for her wounds to heal and gave her lots of extra attention. Daisy loved spending time sitting in her foster's lap, and she is VERY loyal once she finds the right new friend. She is on a special food diet and is getting allergy shots right now. Daisy will need to remain on her special diet (HSPPR is providing several bags of food for her to go home with) and a monthly allergy shot, which is inexpensive. Daisy gets very attached - and a little possessive - of her special people, so although she gets along with other pets, she might prefer to be an only fur-kid. She's come a long way, and now Daisy needs the perfect new home that will keep her healthy for the rest of her life! Daisy will be adopted directly from her foster home, as the shelter environment is a little too stressful for her. If you would like to meet Daisy, please give HSPPR a call at 719.302.8734 to set up a visitation.

Meet Rogue!

On the fifth day of Christmas, Rogue said she wanted to play with YOU! Rogue is the fifth Stray in our 12 Strays of Christmas promotion.

Rogue has had quite a few homes in her 5 years, and this time, Rogue wants a home that will keep her safe and loved for the rest of her life! She can be a tiny bit shy in new situations, but she warms up very quickly. She loves affection, even if she doesn?t always love being held. And boy, does she like to play with her special people! Rogue gets along with small dogs and tolerates other cats well, but she might be frightened of bigger, more energetic dogs. And she has lived with children before as well! If you are looking for a great cat with a wonderful personality to brighten your home this holiday season, come adopt Rogue into your home today.

Each of our 12 Strays of Christmas will have their adoption fee waived by our good friends at Daniels Long Chevrolet (you still might have to pay a licensing fee depending on where you live). Abbi
Abbi, the next Stray in our 12 Strays of Christmas promotion came in to HSPPR with an irritated left eye. After an exam, our veterinarians determined the eye was malformed and nonfunctional, so we removed it so she would not be in any more pain. Abbi is doing very well, and she is just as pretty as she was when she got here! A volunteer favorite, Abbi is reported to be a very good girl who will sit for treats. She loves to run and play and would be a great running partner for your morning jogs. She might even be housebroken, though she will need to learn the rules at your house! Unfortunately, Abbi has not been well socialized to other dogs, and she does not like interacting with them. So she would do best as an only fur-child. If you know of anyone who needs a great girl like Abbi in their life, share Abbi?s story with them today!

Malfoy

On the second day of Christmas, you get to meet Malfoy, the second Stray in our 12 Days of Christmas promotion.

Handsome little Malfoy came in with a very infected eye, and our veterinary staff weren?t able to save it. Malfoy is adjusting well to his pirate status and just needs a little patience from you before he?ll be getting around just as well as before. Malfoy is a friendly, excited little guy who will do a little dance for treats ? and who loves playing with his favorite toys! He is our longest term doggie here at HSPPR right now; he?s been available for more than two weeks and has been here for a month and a half recovering from his surgery. If you are looking for a little dog with a big personality, come meet Malfoy for yourself today!
