Your electric vehicle needs to be charged while on the go, so you need to find the local EV charging stations in Colorado. You might be surprised to see how many are available near you. At Phil Long Dealerships, we want to make your travels easier, so we put together a comprehensive guide of electric vehicle charging stations in Colorado.

Where to Charge Your Electric Vehicle

The Colorado Energy Office has provided a complete list of EV charging stations in the state. With more than 1,400 Level 2 and DC Fast Charging Stations in the states, you can plan out your drive with less worry.

Are all EV chargers the same?

Most electric cars use the same type of charger, and level 1 and Level 2 are the most common found at home. You can also find DC Fast Charging Stations, which take far less time, located in most major cities. Tesla vehicles also use a Supercharger, which only works with the company's lineup.

Charge Time

Level 1 Charger utilizes a standard 120-volt AC plug and can be used with any traditional electrical outlet. Charging this way takes eight to 12 hours. With a Level 2 Charger, you use a 240-volt AC plug, and these can be installed at home or found in a public station. Charging takes one to 11 hours, depending on the battery capacity and charging rate. The Level 3 Charger uses a 480-volt AC or DC plug. You can get a full charge in twenty minutes to one hour. The Tesla Supercharger can recharge a typical battery in as little as 15 minutes.

The Impact of Weather on an EVs Battery

Studies have shown that cold weather can profoundly affect EV batteries. It's clear that the colder temperatures will reduce the range of an EV battery. When tested at 20-degrees Fahrenheit, EV batteries lose about 10-12% of driving range. If you are also using climate control to stay warm, you could further reduce the driving range to 40%. That can take a dramatic bite out of how far you can drive.
